Beginning with the Covid-19 pandemic, YPI began to produce and distribute thousands of high-quality cloth masks to children and their teachers in Malawi’s rural primary and secondary schools. Given the large class sizes in many of the schools, social distancing is proving impossible and, as a result, having access to masks is of paramount importance to maintaining the health of students and their instructors.
The masks are designed and fabricated by trainees and graduates of the Malawi Children’s Village sewing project. Distribution of the masks is being conducted by Davie Willard Mtemangobe, who provides each classroom with training on appropriate use and cleaning of the masks and lessons in preventing spread of the coronavirus.
YPI is financing the production and distribution of these masks.
